A vote has ended the discussion of consolidation between the Endicott Police Department and the Broome County Sheriff’s office. But now a new issue will have officers’ attention as a contentious union negotiation lies ahead. Village board members passed the resolution to end consolidation talks three to one Tuesday evening. The idea could have saved the village an estimated $200,000 a year. Now the village’s mayor has put the police union on notice as the city and the department have to hammer out a new contract next year. The current contract expires on June 1st. City leaders say the department accounts for 40 percent of their budget and changes have to be made to keep the city solvent.
