A train hit a pedestrian in Elmira Wednesday evening near Miller Street in the city. Firefighters say one person died. There’s no word on the victim’s identity. According to operator Norfolk Southern, the westbound train heading towards Buffalo struck the victim around 5 p.m. The train had six locomotives, 10 loads, 43 empty cars and did not derail. Two people were on board and neither was injured. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
