Students from the Vestal School District’s Tioga Hills Elementary in Apalachin invited veterans to their school on Thursday to honor their service. A dozen veterans were in attendance for Thursday’s “Honor Those Who Serve” program, which was organized by fifth graders and included several songs and readings by the students. The school also put together a slideshow presentation to feature photographs of military members who were unable to attend the event. The Tioga Hills students also made cards for the veterans who were able to stop by. Thursday’s service marked the first year of the event to honor the veterans, and it was held as part of the school’s character program.
