Traditions at the Glen resort and conference center in Johnson City is the latest location to be tied to a possible bid for a casino license. Since the passing of Proposition Number One last week, which allows for up to seven Las Vegas-style casinos in New York, a small number of groups have been rumored to be interested in acquiring a casino license. One of the groups is the Vista Hospitality group, which owns a number of hotels in the area, and another is Tioga Downs casino in Nichols. Traditions at the Glen is now expected to announce its plan to bid for the license, saying they plan to make an announcement today that could have a major impact on the local economy. The Southern Tier will be eligible for two of the state’s seven casino licenses, but many people, including Tioga Downs CEO Jeff Gural, believe the region can only support one casino.
