Fire officials say that Sunday evening’s fire in the Town of Maine was sparked by an overloaded extension cord. Firefighters from Maine and Union Center responded to the residence at 569 Route 38B around six o’clock on Sunday, and had the fire under control within twenty minutes. The homeowner was alerted of the fire when a smoke detector in the basement went off. The fire left the house uninhabitable due to damaged electrical circuits, along with the smoke and fire damage. The displaced family plans to stay with local family members, and no injuries were reported.
