An hour-long hydrofracking debate was held on Monday at Binghamton University. Inside BU’s Chamber Hall, the school’s department of Political Science, Environmental Studies Program, and the You Defend It Debate Series sponsored the discussion on fracking. The debate featured John Holko, president of Lenape Resources Incorporated, and Sandra Steingraber, founder of New Yorkers Against Fracking. Holko’s company is involved in exploring and gathering oil and natural gas resources in New York and Pennsylvania. Despite Monday’s debate, the Department of Environmental Conservation has stated recently that it has no plans to announce whether the state will allow hydrofracking until at least April of 2015.
