A Johnson City man was arrested by Broome County Sheriff’s deputies over the weekend after he was found to be in possession of marijuana and a stolen handgun. Just before 2:30 early Saturday morning, a deputy stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at the intersection of East Main Street and Davis Avenue in the Town of Union. The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Maurice Atkinson, did not have a valid driver’s license, and the deputy could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of the drug, and further investigation found a loaded handgun stolen from the State of Georgia. Atkinson was sent to the Broome County Jail.
