The Broome County Health Department is warning residents to be alert after a fox that may have bitten multiple people last weekend tested positive for rabies. Five people are being treated after two separate incidents involving contact with a fox. There is no way to confirm that the rabid fox, which was killed by an Endicott police officer on Sunday, is the same one that came into contact with the residents. The incidents happened near Nanticoke Avenue, East Franklin Street, and Robble Avenue. Health officials are now urging residents that have come in contact with a wild animal to report it to the county health department at 607-778-2847. They also say residents should make sure pets have been vaccinated for rabies.
