A section of road connecting Route 17 and Interstate 81 northbound is set to close Monday for at least three months as part of the Department of Transportation’s Prospect Mountain project. The Route 17 eastbound ramp to I-81 north will be closed for reconstruction through October, with a detour set to divert motorists from Route 17 to Exit 72 at Front Street, and from there travelers will head to I-81 North. The configuration of Front Street will be changed before the ramp is closed to create two travel lanes, and the timing of the traffic signals at the bottom of the exit ramp will be changed to allow for better flow of traffic. Despite the detour being set up, the DOT still encourages drivers to seek alternate routes when possible.
