Officials in Athens voted to recommend that supervisors grant preliminary approval for the plans for an Applebee’s restaurant to be located at the corner of Elmira and Clinton streets. The recommendation was made Monday night and is contingent upon multiple resolutions, including adding a six-foot-high fence around a storm water infiltration basin on the property, and erecting a solid fence to screen headlights from nearby residences. The restaurant is expected to employ between 70 and 90 people, with no more than 40 working at once. The revised plans for the restaurant will go before the board of supervisors at their meeting on July 30th.
