The City of Binghamton is looking into how it will be allocating the $1.9 million it received in Community Development Block Grant funds. The funding comes in at 5 percent lower than last year. The current plan for the money is to spend just over $300,000 on public infrastructure projects, just under $200,000 for code enforcement, and $40,000 on youth programming and crime prevention. An additional $120,000 is slated to be left open for bids from community groups in need of funding. It has not been determined how the rest of the funding will be split. Applications for the funding will be submitted soon with organizations chosen by a committee in the fall. The Binghamton City Council will be voting on the proposals at a meeting on Wednesday.
