The Town & Country Apartments in Binghamton, site of a fatal shooting on July 4th, were found with 20 violations during a code enforcement inspection. The city launched a review of possible nuisance and code-related problems at the complex, which averages about 20 complaints per month, after 19-year-old Scott Wright died of a gunshot wound he received while visiting the apartments. Among the violations are a lack of fire extinguishers on multiple floors, broken exit lights, non-functioning emergency lighting, and missing smoke detectors. According to Mayor Rich David, a written notice of the violations will be mailed to the management and they will have thirty days to fix the issues. City officials last week reported that Binghamton Police have responded to over 1,500 calls at the complex since 2008.
