NYSEG and Lockheed Martin are working together to test a new approach to assessing electrical damage following storms. Lockheed Martin will use a low-flying helicopter to take videos of any possible damage and gather detailed information. The companies hope that this method could lead to quicker restoration of power following severe weather. According to a press release, this week or early next week Lockheed Martin will begin testing the video along the NYSEG distribution circuits near Owego, north of Owego and Apalachin. They will also be testing near the NYSEG training facility on Reynolds Road in Johnson City.
