A nearly nine-mile stretch of Route 434 from Bunn Hill Road, near Binghamton University, to the Tioga County line is now smooth, and much of it is freshly paved. Poor weather has delayed construction efforts, so there is still some median, stripe-ing and signal work to be completed. The project should be wrapped up by Nov. 15. To avoid causing major traffic disasters on the busy road, construction for the past several weeks has been conducted at night, with giant floodlights lining the road to aid the workers. Construction workers have been making their way eastward from the Tioga County line to complete the project. The weather delays mean construction on the last stretch of the road in Vestal, from Bunn Hill Road to the Binghamton city line, will not be completed until next season.
