The roof of the former National Protective Legion on Fulton Street collapsed Monday. The Village had planned to board up the building on Fulton Street, but it is now tearing it down. The four families who live in the adjacent apartments were evacuated and the stores below them were closed yesterday. The public library across the street will be closed today. Village officials said they hope to have the lot cleared and the road open by the end of the week. The mayor of Waverly said the building’s owner sold the building in an auction last month, and does not know who it sold to. The lower half of Fulton Street and part of the west end of Elizabeth Street are all closed during demolition.
