A man is dead after he was struck by a train last night in Elmira. Police responded at 8:18 p.m. to the railroad tracks near West 2nd Street in Elmira. A Norfolk Southern train was traveling below the allowed train speed limit and crossing the bridge over the Chemung River when it stuck a 40-year-old man walking along the tracks on the bridge. He was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. His identity is not being released at this time.
