U-E grad and Endicott native Jon Jones has been suspended indefinitely and stripped of his UFC light heavyweight championship…as announced by the UFC late last night.
In a statement, the UFC said they have suspended him as a result of violations in the organization’s athlete code of conduct policy, but remain supportive of him as he works his way through the legal process. About an hour prior to the announcement, Jones took to social media with the tweet….Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I’ve let down. Jones faces felony hit-and-run charges after a police report accused him of hitting the car of a pregnant woman with his rental car, then fleeing the scene Sunday morning in Albuquerque. Jones could face up to three years in prison under New Mexico law. His case is now in the hands of the district attorney, who has 60 days to decide whether or not to send Jones’ case to a grand jury. Jones holds the UFC record for most light heavyweight title defenses with eight.
