The owners of the Binghamton Mets will be able to negotiate with any group they want to sell the team to, but they will not be able to actually go through with the sale until the lawsuit filed by Main Street Baseball is resolved or settled. U.S. District Court Judge David Hurd issued his decision on the case last night. It comes two weeks after both sides argued their positions at a hearing in federal court in Utica. In his decision he granted Main Street Baseball’s request for a preliminary injunction, which will keep the Binghamton Mets Baseball Club from selling the team to another buyer. However, the B-Mets owners can continue negotiations and discussions with any other buyers. This means the team’s owners can continue to negotiate with the second buyer that has been mentioned by B-Mets president Michael Urda in court filings for this case. Main Street Baseball, who has filed a lawsuit for breach of contract against the Binghamton Mets owners, was hoping for a preliminary injunction that blocked the B-Mets from negotiating with any other group.
