David Sweat was released from Albany Medical Center and returned to maximum security prison early yesterday morning. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced Sweat was released from the hospital and taken to Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus in Seneca County. Sweat had been serving a life sentence for the murder of Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Tarsia in 2002. The state corrections department said Sweat will remain in the infirmary at the prison for the first 24 hours for a medical evaluation. After he’s discharged from the infirmary, Sweat will be housed in a single cell in the Special Housing Unit where prisoners are locked down for 23 hours of the day. Sweat will also be placed on active suicide watch.
