Binghamton City Mayor Rich David’s office released some numbers yesterday, regarding unpaid parking tickets still owed to the city. According to their records, there are currently over 19,400 unpaid parking tickets, totaling over $1 Million. The 15 individuals with the most unpaid parking tickets have a combined total of 146 tickets, totaling over $10,000 in fines and fees. David says that new measures are being introduced to ensure the city gets its money. First, the City of Binghamton will notify individuals who have delinquent tickets via a mailed letter. Then during the month of September, the city will hold an amnesty program which will allow unpaid ticket holders to pay back their fines and fees at 75% of their initial charge. In October, the City will publish the names of delinquent ticket holders who still haven’t paid their balance. Lastly, the city will pursue a contract with a collection agency.
