A nationwide phone scam has local police warning residents. According to Pennsylvania State authorities, victims of the scam are being called by a person claiming to work for the IRS. The caller has a foreign accent most of the time, and has manipulated their caller ID to make it seem as though they are a part of the IRS, however, they are not. The IRS will not call you to demand immediate repayment. The IRS will not threaten to turn you into police. The IRS will first get a hold of you via mail. According to authorities, on average, 10,000 people a week are receiving calls associated with this scam. Last year, this IRS imposter scam was up 25% from 2013 alone.
