The Department of Transportation has released information on its recent addition of 62 new snowplows to its statewide fleet. Twelve of those snowplows will be put to use right here in the Southern Tier. The new plows are 70 feet in length, and have the ability to clear two lanes at once making snow removal a quicker process. This two-lane plowing is accomplished by a traditional plow in front of the truck, as well as a plow in-tow behind the vehicle. Their size, however, keeps these plows restricted to Interstate 81 and 88 in Broome County, and State Route 17 in Tioga, Delaware, and Sullivan counties.
