The Orange men defeated #1 seed Virginia 68-62 Sunday on the strength of a 29-8 run in the second half and the great play of Malachi Richardson to become the first 10th seed to make the Final Four in NCAA Tournament history. As you heard live on WEBO, Richardson scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half and the Orange turned up the pressure on defense to take control of the game. Syracuse will play North Carolina at 8:49pm on Saturday live on WEBO. The Orange lost both regular season meetings with the Tar Heels this year. This will be the sixth all time Final Four appearance for the men. They last made it in 2013, when they lost to Michigan in a semifinal. Syracuse won the National Championship in 2003.
The SU women are also in the Final Four this year. The Orange defeated top seed South Carolina and then Tennessee to advance to the first Final Four in program history. They will play Washington in the Final Four. Syracuse is the only school to have both the men and the women in the Final Four of the tournament this year and the first to have both in the Final Four since the men and women from UConn won national titles in 2014.
