Authorities have released additional details on the traffic accident involving a New York State Trooper on Friday. New York State Police say that 66-year-old John Roote of Morris was driving the wrong way on Route 17 in the Town of Kirkwood when he struck a New York State Police SUV head-on. The trooper behind the wheel of the SUV, 55-year-old Steven Meyer, is said to have taken evasive action to attempt to avoid the collision. Roote is said to have died on-scene due to multiple internal injuries. Meyer receive treatment of minor injuries. The results of a toxicology report on Roote are still pending.
