State grant money benefits local farmers

After opening applications to area farmers in January, New York State’s Southern Tier Agricultural Industry Enhancement Program has just paid out its first round of grant awards. The awards were given on a first-come, first-serve basis in amounts of up to $100,000 a piece. The grant program was started by New York law makers to help local farmers continue to thrive and grow their businesses.

In Tioga County, 14 grants were awarded, totaling $1,237, 013.

And in Broome County, 9 grants were awarded, totaling $797,320.
