The 2017 New York State County Health Rankings have been released. The rankings are put together each year by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help counties know where they rank in health status for their state and what influences the health of their residents. Counties are measured by looking at length of life, quality of life, health behaviors, clinical care, and physical environment. Tioga County ranked 36th out of 62 counties in New York, and saw improvements in the percentage of unemployed adults, a decrease in alcohol-impaired driving deaths, and a decrease in teen pregnancies from a year ago. The Tioga County Health Department says they will continue to work to improve the health of county residents. Broome County ranked 55th in New York. They will hold a press conference today to respond to the rankings, which are available online at www.countyhealthrankings.org. This week is National Public Health Week.
