Elmira Police are now saying that the 8-month-old baby, abandoned in a trash bag outside an Elmira home, had been there for three days. The baby’s mother, 17-year-old Harriette Hoyt of Sayre has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. Court documents claim that she put the baby in a white plastic bag covering the child’s body on Saturday, and placed it near some bushes in the backyard of a home. Two neighbors discovered the child Tuesday after hearing a suspicious noise. Elmira police say the baby was dirty and dehydrated, and given first aid by the women who found her. The infant is now in stable condition at the hospital. Hoyt was arraigned in Elmira City Court Tuesday night and sent to the Chemung County Jail. Officers say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should call Elmira police at 607-737-5626
