The Ithaca Police Officers will soon be providing a Distracted Driving Diversion Class to eligible first-time violators of New York State’s portable electronic device and cell phone laws. The class presents information about the dangers of distracted driving, and upon presenting proof of attendance to the Assistant District Attorney, violators may avoid the five-point DMV penalty associated with a conviction of one of these offenses. The classes will be offered on the first Tuesday of every month (except November) at 6pm in the Borg Warner Room at the Tompkins County Public Library and are also open to the public. The first Class will be on Tuesday, September 5th.
