27-year-old Jihad Ray of Binghamton has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Brandon Hernandez outside an after-hours nightclub on Orton Avenue. Police initially believed that the shooting was gang related, but now believe there was no clear motive. Ray agreed to a plea deal about two months ago. Prosecutors believe that a Brooklyn man named Jabari Ashe, shot and killed 26-year-old Tyquan Gumbs in retaliation for the Hernandez shooting. Ashe will stand trial in February. The after-hours club was shut down by the city.
