Ithaca Police have been investigating suspicious activity of a Dryden Road resident. Officers recovered an unassembled AR-15 rifle, a homemade silencer, a gas mask, high capacity magazines, materials to make improvised explosive devices, and other items. On Friday, police arrested 20-year-old Maximilian Reynolds of Ithaca. Reynolds is a former Cornell University student. He was charged with possession of a destructive device and a silencer, as well as aiding and abetting the “straw purchase” of a rifle. Ithaca Police Chief Pete Tyler said that they were alarmed by the discovery, and that collectively all of the items suggest a specific recipe for large scale destruction. Reynolds is being held without bail. The case is being investigated by the FBI, ATF, Ithaca PD, State Police, and Cornell University Police.
