The corruption retrial of former New York State Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver is set to begin in Manhattan. Jury selection will begin on Monday, and opening statements are scheduled for April 30th. Silver is alleged to have made millions of dollars from clients that were referred from a doctor that received research grants from the state. Silver maintains that he acted within the law. The retrial had been scheduled to begin April 16th, however a key witness, mesothelioma doctor, Robert Taub, has medical issues that would prevent him from testifying before the 30th. Taub is alleged to have referred his patients to Silver’s law firm. The trial is expected to take four to six weeks.
