The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is getting complaints about fake phone calls soliciting money, on behalf of the Sheriff’s office. The calls are coming in from local numbers and even use current Sheriff’s Office personnel names. In several cases the number has stayed the same; 607-216-6196. The callers are male and identifying themselves as “Lieutenant Donahue or Lieutenant Robertson”. The sheriff’s office says this is a scam. You ’re warned not to give out any personal information, or money, just simply hang up.
