Fire investigators confirm a house fire on West Deerfield Place in Vestal was caused by mulch. Fresh mulch outside the home combusted and moved through wood siding of the home. No one was home at the time. A smoke detector in the home’s basement notified an alarm company and dispatched the fire department. Investigators say there is significant damage to the home. The Vestal Fire Department, Police Department, Emergency Squad and West Worners Fire Departments all responded to the fire.
