The Binghamton Police Department is actively investigating five residential neighborhood burglaries to vacant homes. The incidents have occurred over the past week, at various times throughout the day. Locations targeted have been Vestal Avenue, Sherwood Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue and Mill Street. The locations have been vacant properties all with posted “FOR SALE” signs posted in the yard or on the property. Forced entry to a rear door or window has occurred in several cases. Once inside the perpetrators cut the copper plumbing pipes or wiring from the homes to harvest as scrap metals. Residents are asked to be vigilant and keep an extra eye on neighboring properties which may be unoccupied or posted for sale. The investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Division at 607-772-7080.
