BREAKING NEWS: NY State Trooper Shot and Killed Responding to Incident in Corning

BREAKING NEWS: A New York State Trooper has been killed while responding to an 3:30AM incident in the Town of Erwin, Steuben County. The incident occurred near the campus of Corning Community College. The suspect in this shooting is also dead from a self-inflicted wound. The Trooper is identified as 29-year-old  Nicholas Clark of Troupsburg.

Trooper Clark responded to a report of a suicidal person barricaded at a residence at 10041 Welch Road in the town of Erwin, Steuben County. The suspect has been identified as 43-year-old Steven Kiley. His estranged wife made the 911 call that Kiley was threatening suicide. Kiley was the K-12 principal at the Bradford (NY) Central School District, between Hammondsport and Watkins Glen.

Trooper Clark entered the State Police in March of 2015, and previously served as a Trooper in Ithaca and Auburn; his latest assignment was at State Police Troop E in Bath. Trooper Clark is survived by his father, Anthony Clark; mother, Theresa Gunn; and brother, Nathan Clark.

Trooper Clark graduated from Alfred University, where he was an  all-American linebacker. He was in the 2012 Buffalo Bills rookie camp. He was also an all-state wrestler at Canisteo-Greenwood.

The Trooper’s body was transported by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office with a NYSP escort to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. It passed through Owego around noon.

The incident did not involve students or staff from Corning Community College. Police are using a parking lot on the campus as a temporary headquarters.
