In the first half of 2018, there were reportedly 13 overdose drug deaths in Broome County. This is a significant reduction from the first half of 2017, when there were 39 overdose deaths. There were 36 deaths in the same period of 2016. Ten of the 13 deaths were attributed to heroin or opioids. Three were caused by other drugs. The average age of each victim was 39 with 10 male victims and 3 female; 9 of the deaths occurred in Binghamton, 3 in the Town of Union, and 1 in Chenango.
