An estimated 10 million gallons of untreated sewage has been discharged into the Susquehanna River in Binghamton, as a result of the heavy rains overwhelming the waste treatment centers. The discharge happened at a facility near Pennsylvania Avenue. Construction at the facility has also hampered the facility’s treatment capacity.
