DESCRIPTION: …FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT…
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of the southern tier of New York
and northeast Pennsylvania, including the following areas, in
New York…Broome, Chemung, Delaware, Steuben, Sullivan, and
Tioga. In northeast Pennsylvania… Bradford, Lackawanna,
Luzerne, Northern Wayne, Pike, Southern Wayne, Susquehanna, and
Wyoming.
* Through 2 AM tonight.
* An additional round of showers of thunderstorms will move
through the region this afternoon and evening. Rainfall from
this next round will be around an inch in most spots with
locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall coupled with
recent heavy rain events have made the area more susceptible to
flooding and flash flooding.
* Heavy rain could trigger rapid flooding of small streams, creeks
and in poor drainage areas. Roads, culverts, bridges could
become washed out if flash flooding develops. Homes and
businesses could be flooded where the heaviest rain sets up.
INSTRUCTIONS: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
