A Syracuse judge has sentenced a former Cornel University student to 20 years in prison on a weapons charge. Charles Tan was tried on charges of murdering his father in 2015, but following a hung jury the judge, in a controversial move, dismissed the charges. Federal prosecutors then filed weapons charges against Tan. He entered a guilty plea to the charges in March.
