On Feb. 24 at approximately 7:13 p.m., New York State Police at Oneonta arrested George B. Odbert III after he told his dog to attack police during a confrontation in the Town of Laurens, near Oneonta. Odbert, 32 of Laurens, was charged with three counts of Menacing in the third degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration, all misdemeanors.

State police say troopers were dispatched to a report of a physical dispute at a residence on County Road 12 in Laurens. A victim told troopers that Odbert was involved in an argument and then physically restricted the victim from leaving the residence. But the victim sprayed Odbert with pepper spray and fled the residence. The victim declined to file charges.

Then, Odbert became disorderly with troopers and refused to comply with verbal commands. As a trooper attempted to escort Odbert away from the victim, Odbert slammed a door on the trooper. The trooper then attempted to restrain Odbert but he physically resisted and told his large dog to attack troopers.  Odbert was pepper sprayed and ultimately arrested. He was arraigned in Town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County jail.

No report on the trooper’s name and whether the officer was injured.
