The Southern Tier Law Enforcement Memorial Association has announced the events of Police Week 2019 in Broome and Tioga counties. Police Week begins Friday, April 26, with a Police Memorial Hockey Game at 7pm at the Icehouse Sports Complex in Chenango Bridge. On Sunday at 3pm, there is a nondenominational Police Memorial Church Service that is being held at St. Vincent De Paul’s Church in Vestal. On Monday, April 29, a silent processional of police vehicles with lights displayed will be arriving at the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office at 10am for a ceremonial Flag Raising and wreath laying, with guest speakers from Tioga County. Tuesday, April 30, is the annual Police Memorial Breakfast to be held at the Holiday Inn Arena at 9am. Wednesday, May 1, is the Police Week Golf Tournament at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, beginning at 9am. Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, Police Week culminates at the Oakdale Mall with police vehicles on display and many interactive displays including Child Car Seat Safety Inspections and K9 demonstrations. It is a time to recognize law enforcement for the work that they do and honor those that gave their lives so that others may live peacefully.
