Tioga County NY Sustainability Manager Ellen Pratt appeared on the WEBO Morning Show to discuss New York State’s new ban on plastic grocery and shopping bags. Beginning March 1st 2020, you will no longer be able to have your groceries bagged into traditional plastic shopping bags. instead, you’ll be asked to provide your own reusable shopping bags, or purchase them from the store. Some stores may also offer paper bags, but they may charge for them. The move is meant to cut down on the “nuisance” these bags cost, and take a step into the future of long term sustainability by reducing waste.
