Donate $2, $3 or $5 at grocery checkouts to support Southern Tier food pantries

ELMIRA, NY – The Food Bank of the Southern Tier announces the start of Check Out Hunger, an annual community-wide fundraiser at local grocery stores to collect monetary donations for hunger relief. This is the 27th year that the Food Bank has partnered with local grocers to raise awareness and funds to build and sustain hunger-free communities in the Southern Tier.

Jubilee Foods, Save-A-Lot, Tops Friendly Markets and
Wegmans Food Markets locations throughout the
Southern Tier are participating in the campaign. Shoppers can donate $2, $3, or $5 to Check Out Hunger directly at the register. Cashiers simply add the donation to shoppers’ checkout totals.

New this year, the Food Bank will be offering a Virtual Food Drive option where supporters can shop virtually and contribute during Check Out Hunger. To make participate in the Virtual Food Drive, please visit www.foodbankst.org

Now more than ever, our friends and neighbors need support. National projections from Feeding America show that the effects of the pandemic will continue to impact our community in 2021 with 1 in 6 people expected to face food insecurity, up from 1 in 8. In 2020, Food Bank partner pantries and Food Bank direct service programs, like Mobile Food Pantries, fulfilled 262,841 household food requests.
