Waverly man faces two felony charges after domestic incident in village

(Waverly, NY) – On March 9, 2023, at 11:54pm, Waverly police arrested MICHAEL C. DeFINIS , age 37 of Waverly, NY, for the following criminal charges:

  • Felony Criminal Possession of a weapon in the second degree,
  • Felony Reckless Endangerment first degree,
  • Misdemeanor Menacing in the second degree.

DeFINIS was arrested following a police investigation into a domestic incident alleged to have occurred on March 9 at a residence on Ithaca Street in the Village of Waverly, just prior to the time of arrest.

A female came to the Waverly Police Department for help. The woman reported that she had a handgun pointed at her face by the accused during an argument (domestic incident). The female reported that while she was sitting in her vehicle outside the residence, DeFINIS punched the driver’s side window of the vehicle and then made threats to kill her. DeFINIS then allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed the handgun directly at her face. The victim was able to escape and reported the incident to police.

DeFINIS was arrested without incident and transported to Tioga County CAP Court, Owego, to await further legal actions.

Two handguns were located and retrieved by police at the residence.
