Owego resident rescued from fire on William Street

One resident was rescued and his home was damaged by a fire in the Village of Owego last Thursday.

According to the Owego Fire Department, a neighbor called in the fire on William Street at around 6:45 p.m. on July 18th.  Owego Deputy Fire Chief Mike Hopkins arrived on the scene and requested a second alarm for a working structure fire. He was informed by a neighbor that one person was still inside the home.

The Deputy Chief was able to gain access into the residence and rescued the victim from an upstairs bedroom. The victim was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Approximately 35 firefighters were on the scene with no serious injuries reported.

The Owego Fire Department was assisted by the Campville and Apalachin Fire Departments along with the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team, Owego Police Department, Owego Emergency Squad and Village of Owego Code Enforcement.
