Firefighters from the Campville Fire Department quickly put out a fire on Thursday and prevented serious damage at an apartment.
A fire was reported on Hickories Park Road just after 2 p.m. on Thursday. Within minutes, firefighters arrived and found the apartment with smoke banked down to the floor with near-zero visibility.
Firefighters immediately masked up and called out for anyone inside. After an elderly man responded, the crew entered and swiftly escorted him out of the smoke-filled apartment to safety, with no injuries.
With a water can in hand, the team quickly extinguished the fire in the oven, preventing further damage.
The local fire department reminded the public that October is Fire Prevention Month and it’s a great time to review fire safety plans and ensure your home is equipped with working smoke alarms and fire extinguishers.
