A Steuben County man was killed during a standoff with police on Monday.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old Allan Hoad, II, of Cameron fired at police when they were dispatched to his home on Angel Road at around 12:40 am on Monday.
After Hoad allegedly shot and hit two patrol cars, law enforcement retreated and set up a perimeter. They called in SWAT and a crisis negotiation team.
Negotiators worked for approximately 12 hours to convince the suspect to leave his house and turn himself in. Hoad allegedly made threats to kill people during the incident.
Hoad got into a vehicle with a gun and attempted to avoid the police barricade. He drove to a neighboring home and attempted to go into the occupied house. He then got back into his vehicle and drove it directly towards deputies in the road, hitting a patrol vehicle.
Deputies fired their weapons to stop the suspect, who then got out of the car and began fighting with police before being taken into custody.
Hoad was provided medical treatment on scene before being taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Corning police department, Canisteo Police Department and New York State Police.
