The New York State Corrections Officers strike entered its 15th day on Monday, despite threats from the state that they would be fired if they didn’t return to work.

The officers were told that if returned to work by this past Saturday they would avoid punishment, but thousands remain on strike including hundreds at the Elmira Correctional Facility.

According to WENY-TV, at least 10 striking officers across the state have been fired. The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said that officers who have missed more than 10 consecutive shifts are considered to have resigned from their position.

Thousands of New York National Guard members continue to provide staffing at 32 facilities across the state, including in Elmira.

The state has spent around $25 million dollars in response to the strike with the cost expected to hit $100 million a month if the strike continues.
