Hundreds of striking corrections officers, including some from Elmira, traveled to Albany on Tuesday to protest their working conditions.

The officers are looking for better hours, safer working conditions and the repeal of the HALT Act.

State Senator Tom O’Mara joined the officers on Tuesday, and expressed his support of their cause.

According to WENY-TV, some striking officers are ready to return to work in the Elmira Correctional Facility. State officials say six of 38 facilities on strike have had enough workers return to resume normal operations.

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the striking officers are expected to continue negotiations.
