An Elmira man has been arrested on several charges in connection with a crash in New Jersey that killed a 16-year-old back in February.
According to the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office, 21-year-old Ryan D. Chambers was arrested on July 1st and charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree.
The crash occurred on Feb. 28th at around 6 a.m. on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Alpine, New Jersey.
An unlicensed 15-year-old from New York was driving a Nissan Rogue with five people inside when it collided with a Honda CRV. The teen was said to be driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
A 16-year-old male passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, while other passengers were injured.
The 15-year-old driver was previously charged with vehicular homicide and other related charges.
Investigators said Chambers, who was a passenger in the Nissan, had taken responsibility for the four juveniles in the vehicle and allowed the 15-year-old to drive.
